Paul Sommer – Matzoh Ball winner

matzohball-stopskys

Congratulations to Paul Sommer, winner of the Great Matzoh Ball Showdown! Honorable mentions went to Bonnie Wood and Team Stopsky. Photos to follow, but the judges praised Paul’s matzoh balls as “really tasty,” “just right flavor,” and “very fluffy.”

Thanks to Evelyn Hirata for this fantastic photo of Paul Sommer (upper row) and our Matzoh Ball Judges. Monday night’s contest was a fantastic community event, and we are excited to start working with Paul to get his soup on the menu! Thanks a million to everyone who came out! It was a blast.

The Great Matzoh Ball Showdown

Sinker of floater? Golf ball or soft ball? Parsley or dill? Schmaltz or oil? These are the questions every matzoh ball maker must face when perfecting the quintessential Jewish dumpling. And Stopsky’s Delicatessen on Mercer Island is no different.

That’s why on July 18, 2011, Stopsky’s will hold “The Great Matzoh Ball Showdown” to find the very best matzoh ball in the local community. Home chefs – mammas, bubbies and everyone else – are invited to submit their favorite matzoh balls in a contest to be judged by five local judges.
